A typical week

During the course, students take part in sessions on preparing for higher education, understanding university life, managing study, and developing academic writing. The week also includes activities that introduce students to Durham’s environment, resources, and community.

Library and cultural experience

A fieldwork session at Palace Green Library offers hands-on experience with archival materials, primary sources, and material culture.

Peer support and community

Near-peer mentors help create a supportive atmosphere and offer practical insight into starting at Durham.

Social and college experience

The course introduces students to aspects of college life, including social activities and formal dining.

Support throughout the experience

The programme is structured around academic and pastoral support. Students can discuss practical questions, access reasonable adjustments where needed, and begin their studies with a clearer understanding of where to turn for help.
